13yo M’sian Teen Stabs Grab Driver With Knife During Ride, Driver Thankfully Unhurt

Thank goodness.
While being a Grab driver has its own set of perks and financial benefits, it can bring about unknown risks as the driver has no idea whether the passenger will suddenly turn on them and assault or injure him/her.

A Grab driver in Kedah narrowly escaped death after a young passenger took a knife and stabbed him in the chest but fortunately wasn’t hurt by the ambush.

13yo M’sian teen stabs Grab driver with knife

In the 1 minute clip posted to the Facebook group Penduduk Sungai Petani Kedah yesterday (Nov 27), it showed a Grab driver fetching a 13-year-old boy in his car.

Throughout the ride, the Grab driver could be heard scolding the teen for bringing him around aimlessly for the past one hour and told him not to “main-main” (fool around).

Upon reaching the destination given by the boy, the Grab driver stopped his car and was reaching into his breast pocket to give the teen his change when the former suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed his chest.

Thankfully, the knife landed on the seatbelt and the teen didn’t have the strength to plunge the knife deep enough to cause an injury, allowing the driver to defend himself by biting the teen’s hand.

After the failed stabbing, the teen flung open the car door and fled on foot while the driver sat breathlessly in his seat as he tried to process what had just happened.

Teen asked money from driver to pay rent

Berita Harian later reported that the teen was arrested by police at 10pm after the Grab driver lodged a police report two hours prior.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zaidy Che Hassan said the teen had booked the ride at 5.43pm at Lorong Taman Keladi and asked the driver to borrow him RM50 to pay rent.

“However, the driver informed him that if he had no money, he would have to drop him off at that location. However, the teenager refused and requested to be taken to his house in Bandar Sri Astana to get the money to pay the fare.

Upon reaching the said house, the teenager asked to be taken back to Taman Keladi and paid the driver RM18. He also prolonged the ride by leading the driver through several back lanes.

“The driver later dropped the teen off at Taman Keladi and asked for an additional payment of RM9, where he was given RM20,” he said.

Zaidy added that when the driver was about to give the change, the teen stabbed him with the knife and tried to rob him but failed.

“We believe the incident was sparked by the teen being angry over being berated by the driver during the ride. His urine screening test found that he wasn’t under the influence of drugs or alcohol and has no previous criminal record.

“The case is being investigated under Section 393 of the Penal Code for attempted robbery and the teen has been remanded starting today to assist in investigations,” he said.
