13yo M’sian Teen Drives Against Traffic With 4 Friends Inside Car, Nabbed After 10km Chase

Teens, when unsupervised, tend to get themselves into reckless and sometimes dangerous shenanigans, especially when it involves vehicles.

A young boy found himself on the wrong side of the law after he was caught driving against traffic and tried to flee from police while having four friends seated inside as well.

Sinar Daily reported that the incident occurred in Taman Banggol Indah, Chukai in Terengganu yesterday (June 29).

Kemaman district police chief Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan said in a statement that police were alerted of the 13-year-old teen driving against traffic during their Op Samseng Jalanan at around 4pm.

“Police detected the suspect driving a white Proton Saga car coming from the opposite direction against the traffic while passing through Jalan Bawah Jambatan Geliga (Waterfront).

“Officers on duty tried to stop the vehicle but the driver ignored the orders to stop and continued to accelerate in order to escape,” he said as quoted by the English daily.

He said police continued to tail the car and ordered the teen to pull over three times but he completely ignored them.

Led police on 10km chase

As the chase ensued, the teen continued to drive for another 10km before coming to a stop at a self-service laundromat and tried to flee but was eventually arrested at around 5.15pm.

Aside from him, his four other friends aged between 13 to 16 years old were also arrested and placed under custody for further action under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Ramyan said the teen was found to be driving without a license and police would be summoning his mother, the owner of the vehicle, to testify and face charges for allowing unlicensed individuals to drive her car.

He also added that the teen was found to have committed other traffic offences in the past, such as driving the car recklessly in a zigzag pattern along the federal road, as well as failing to stop at the Mak Lagam traffic light and cutting off other vehicles at the Geliga Bus Station traffic light.
