12yo M’sian Boy Beaten And Nearly Slashed With Parang By Father After Birthday Celebration

The boy suffered soft tissue injuries as a result.
Birthday celebrations are supposed to be a joyous occasion for the one celebrating it as it marks another year of growth and is a chance for one to connect with family members and friends.

Unfortunately for a 12-year-old boy in Perak, his birthday celebration turned into a living nightmare after he was brutally assaulted by his own father and was close to getting injured by a parang.

According to a statement by Gerik district police chief Superintendent Zulkifli Mahmood, he said the incident occurred at the home of the victim’s aunt located at Kampung Perah, Gerik, at around 5pm on Sunday (Oct 29).

He said investigations found that the victim’s aunt had brought him to her home at 6pm on Saturday (Oct 28) to spend the night and celebrate his birthday before sending him home the next day.

“On the day of the incident, the father of the victim came to the woman’s home and began punching and kicking his son in the back.

“He also swung a parang towards the victim but narrowly missed him,” he said.

Suffered soft tissue injuries

Zulkifli said the victim was later sent to the Gerik Hospital for treatment, where he suffered soft tissue injuries to his back and thigh.

A police report was later lodged by the victim’s aunt at the Bersia police station and the boy’s father was arrested yesterday (Oct 30).

The case is now being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for child abandonment and exposing them to injury, where it carries a fine not more than RM20,000, an imprisonment not exceeding ten years, or both.
