Speaking to the Malay daily, Lahad Datu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Dzulbaharin Ismail said investigations revealed that Denis was swimming with five other friends before the attack.

While swimming, the victim was attacked and dragged by a crocodile into the open sea. Rescue efforts were immediately carried out by family members and villagers, but they were unable to find him.
“A man later reported the incident to the Desa Kencana police station for assistance and the victim’s body was about 600 meters from the scene at 9.26am,” he said.
However, police were met with a grisly sight, where Denis’ body was missing a right arm and the head.

Crocodiles spotted inside the water
Meanwhile, Wildlife Officer Silvester Saimin told Sinar Harian that the department had also received a report on the incident.
He added that two crocodiles were sighted in the ocean and shots were fired at them. However, the reptiles managed to submerged themselves into the water.
Silvester said the area will continued to be monitored due the frequent presence of crocodiles along the beach.

The case has been classified as sudden death (SDR) and witnesses are urged to contact Inspector Junis Bulansor at 013-8742128.
