SAARLANDHALLE – Lee Zii Jia pulled off the impossible after fighting back from an 11-point deficit to defeat Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen yesterday (Nov 5), earning him a spot at the semi-finals of Hylo Open 2021.
Although Lee sailed through the first set with a 21-13 score, Kantaphon came back stronger in the second set, racking up a 16-6 lead over the World No. 8 player.
However, this didn’t faze Lee at all, who fought back by scoring 11 match points in a row and eventually secured the victory with a 22-20 score despite Kantaphon’s best efforts.
Lee remains as the last Malaysian standing following the defeat of mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Peck Yen Wei by Thailand’s Supak Jomkoh-Supissara Paewsampran.
He will face Srikanth Kidambi in the bid to secure a slot at the finals today so let’s wish him the best of luck!
