A shocking incident in Chengdu, Sichuan has sparked outrage after a woman was left traumatized when two window cleaners unexpectedly appeared outside her high-rise apartment while she was asleep and unclothed, leading to her being fully exposed.
Her husband claims the ordeal left her with depression, yet the apartment management has allegedly refused to take responsibility.
Wife caught naked by surprise
According to ETToday, Mr. Cheng and his wife rented a luxury high-rise apartment in Chengdu in April this year, paying a monthly rent of approximately RM6,400(10,000 yuan).
When they moved in, the property manager informed tenants that glass cleaning would be carried out between April 21 and 30, promising to notify them before cleaners reached their floor so they could close curtains for privacy.
However, on April 25, while Mr. Cheng was working in the living room, he suddenly heard his wife screaming from the bedroom.
Rushing in, he discovered that his wife, who had been asleep naked without drawing the curtains, had been startled awake by noise — only to find two male window cleaners hanging outside the large floor-to-ceiling glass windows. She was completely exposed to them.
Imagine waking up to see two men suddenly outside your window while you’re naked. The psychological impact is unimaginable,” he said.
Apartment denies responsibility
Mr. Cheng accused the property management of breaking its promise to notify tenants beforehand. He said no message was ever sent prior to the cleaning on their floor.
Following the incident, his wife’s mental state deteriorated, and doctors later diagnosed her with depression.
Negotiations between the couple and the apartment management fell apart.
At first, the management denied any wrongdoing, but later admitted there had been a communication lapse.
Still, they allegedly refused to issue a public apology or provide compensation, offering only around RM430 (600 yuan) rent discount as a “gesture.”
Husband goes public
Frustrated by the lack of accountability, Mr. Cheng went public with the story in August as the couple prepared to move out.
He revealed details of the case online, claiming the management had only acknowledged the mistake once the incident began attracting public attention.
As the controversy spread, the apartment management eventually admitted the incident had occurred, stating that the matter was still under discussion.
