A pau store located within a popular Penang mall has urged a young woman to come forward and make the necessary payment after she was caught on CCTV stealing their products.
The incident was brought to light in a Facebook post shared by the stall today, where it included CCTV footage of the theft.
What footage showed
According to the CCTV footage’s timestamp, the woman came to the store yesterday (Apr 22) at close to 2pm and begins scouring through the products inside a refrigerator.

After a quick glance, the woman opens the refrigerator door and picks up a packet of pau before placing it back to its original position.
She then picks another packet of pau and quickly slips it into her handbag before leaving the scene.
Unbeknownst to her, it was all captured by the CCTV.

The store later wrote the Facebook post and urged the woman to come clean as her actions were caught in broad daylight.
“We want to resolve the issue quickly and you have 24 hours from now to return to the store to make payment.
“If you don’t return in time, we will hand the CCTV footage over to police and file a report,” it wrote.
Slammed for ‘cheap’ behaviour
In the comment section, the woman’s actions won her no favours from netizens, who criticised her for her dishonesty.
‘Wearing a pair of Adidas shoes but went on to steal. Cheap.’

‘Normally people would steal designer handbags, but this one chose to steal char siew paus.’

Others mocked the woman for underestimating the CCTV’s capability in catching crimes in real time.

Meanwhile, one urged the store to lodge a police report immediately as there was a high chance the woman will not see the post.

We hope she will fess up and make payment soon!
