A Malaysian woman recently sparked a heated online debate after expressing disappointment that her relatives bought a car, but not from her husband, who works as a car salesman.
According to mStar, the woman took to social media to share her feelings, revealing that she felt disheartened when she learned that her relatives had purchased a new car without going through her husband.
They all know my husband sells cars. I’m not upset about the profit or commission, I just wish they had supported him. So, if anyone plans to buy a car, please support my husband, regardless of the brand.”
She stressed that she wasn’t angry, but merely disappointed.

Some say it’s about boundaries, not loyalty
Her post quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from netizens.
While some sympathized with her sentiment and agreed that family should support one another, others argued that buying from relatives, especially when it involves major purchases like cars or houses, can get awkward.
One commenter explained that purchasing from family often requires disclosing sensitive personal information such as income, payslips, or EPF statements.
‘Personally, I’d never buy a car or property from a relative. I don’t want my financial details to become family gossip.‘
Others echoed the same view, saying that price and service quality should matter more than blood ties.
‘Sorry, but I won’t buy things from family just for the sake of it. If the price and service are the same, I’d rather keep my privacy.’
Many also pointed out that there’s no rule requiring anyone to purchase goods or services from family members, no matter how close the relationship.
Still, the woman clarified that she wasn’t trying to guilt-trip anyone. Instead, she said her post was meant as a gentle reminder that supporting family, when one is able to, can mean a lot.
“I respect everyone’s opinion. But if you can, please consider supporting your relatives. It might not make you richer, but it means the world to them.”
