“Where are your manners?!” Parent rages at teacher for not replying immediately

Remember: Manners maketh men. And women too.

Can you imagine staying in a room with 1-2 playful kids for half a day? For teachers, they need to face 10-60 children in a classroom and this is the tough reality. It is no wonder then, why we always say educators have the kindest soul in the world as their occupation requires great patience.

Recently, a teacher named Lew Siew Fei took to social media to call for basic respect to be shown towards herself and her peers.

She posted a screenshot of a rude parent demanding teaching materials for her autistic child. The parent wasn’t shy to make her demands known by using phrases like “Send the materials to me right now!” “I am in a hurry. I want it NOW!”

When the parent did not get an immediate reply from Lew, she released a barrage of angry emojis and questioned Lew for the delayed response, especially after finding out Lew had replied her friend and not her.

“As a teacher, do you know what are ‘manners?’ How can you keep me waiting here as a teacher? If you are not willing to help just tell me straight away. What kind of teacher are you? I will let other parents know what you did!” she said.

In the post, Lew mentioned that she always receives unreasonable requests from parents and usually responds to those who are slightly impolite while ignoring the rude ones. She emphasized that she was sharing her experience not to shame anyone, but to highlight the struggles teachers face and hope that people will be more understanding and compassionate.

“Please do not take all of our sacrifices for granted. Be more understanding and treat teachers with dignity and respect.”

The post has garnered 2K reactions, 1K comments and 1.7K shares at the time of writing.

Some came to the parent’s defense, saying that maybe she was really in a hurry or had her own difficulties.

Others opined that being in a hurry should not be an excuse to be rude and impolite.

Some netizens went even further, suggesting that the child’s autism was the result of the parent’s forceful nature. However, Lew pointed out that the parent was merely asking for the materials on a relative’s behalf.

Anyway, the bottom line is this – we hope that this post will encourage people to show more respect towards their teachers who have invested a lot in their students’ lives. Peace out~
