What’s PADU all about?

Pangkalan Data Utama (PADU) is basically a big data hub set up by the Malaysian government, where they garner information from different government agencies in one place.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim mentioned in May 2023 that the data they currently have on hand is not exactly in good order, making it tough to come up with good policies.

PADU, which is run by the Department of Statistics and other agencies, aims to sort this out by making data collection and storage better. The idea is to help the government dish out targeted subsidies and social protection to those truly deserving of it.

According to Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Malaysia spent a whopping RM81 billion on subsidies in 2023. He stressed the need to divvy it up fairly, and that’s where PADU comes in.

PADU is supposed to be an aid at identifying who really needs the help, making sure the subsidies don’t end up in the wrong hands.

The game plan is to move away from broad categories like B40, M40, and T20 when handing out subsidies. Instead, they want to focus on household net disposable income for a more accurate picture.

Now that you know what PADU is and how it works, let’s explore how you can seamlessly register your PADU account and enjoy the benefits that comes with it.
