Social media is a great place to connect, shop, and even start businesses—but it also comes with its fair share of weird encounters.
Many women have experienced random DMs from strangers who seem friendly at first, only for the conversation to take a turn for the worse.
Recently, a woman took to X to expose a creepy experience she had on Instagram. What started as an innocent chat about hijabs quickly escalated into something much more unsettling.
The sender, who seemed like a fellow woman interested in fashion, suddenly began asking personal questions about bras and underwear.
It wasn’t until later that she realised the person behind the messages was actually a man using a fake profile.
“Not my first time getting DMs like this”
In her post, she revealed that this wasn’t the first time she had encountered such behaviour.
According to her, the same individual had messaged her before using different accounts, always starting with casual fashion-related questions before veering into inappropriate territory.
“This isn’t the first time I’ve gotten a DM like this. They used to ask where I bought my clothes, then suddenly started asking about bras,” she wrote, sharing screenshots of their conversation.
It started off normal… at first
At first glance, the conversation seemed harmless. The person, using a fake profile, reached out with what looked like a genuine business inquiry.
Hi dear, I want to ask something. Where did you buy the hijab you’re wearing in your profile picture? What’s the material? It looks really nice.”
Since it seemed like an innocent question, she responded politely. The sender then went on to say they were in the process of setting up a boutique in Kuala Lumpur and even invited her to check it out when it opened.
Fashion here is trendy and beautiful. I studied design before, mostly European styles. Now I’m interested in hijab designs. I’m setting up a business with my friends, planning to open a boutique in KL. If you have time, you can drop by! But we’re only launching at the end of the year.”
Thinking it was just another small business owner trying to make connections, she played along.
Wow!!! So exciting! Let me know when it launches. I’d love to drop by and support!”

Then things got… weird
Just when she thought the conversation was normal, the sender suddenly steered it in a different direction—lingerie.
My boutique is launching at the end of the year. Still thinking of a catchy name. I’ll share the location once it’s ready—probably in Bangsar.”
Then, out of nowhere, they started talking about the market for bras and panties in Malaysia.
But I’m unsure how Malaysians will react because my friend and I are opening a boutique specialising in undies/innerwear, like bras and panties. My friends in the UK told me there’s a market for it since there are already so many hijab and clothing stores. Bras don’t seem to be as widespread yet. What do you think?”
Before she could even process the shift in topic, they sent another message that made her skin crawl.
What brand of bra do you usually wear? Is it comfortable?”
The moment she knew something was off
At that point, all the alarms in her head went off. The sudden shift from hijabs to bras, the weirdly persistent questions, and the unnatural way the conversation flowed—it all clicked. This wasn’t a woman trying to start a fashion business.
This was a man.
Fed up and disgusted, she immediately shut him down.
You perverted son of a b***, stop DM-ing me, you pig!”
She then posted the screenshots on X, warning others to be cautious of fake accounts pretending to be women to gain their trust before asking inappropriate questions.

Same modus operandi
Her post quickly went viral, with netizens slamming the man’s predatory behaviour. Many women shared similar experiences, warning others to be wary of strangers who slide into their DMs with seemingly harmless questions.
“Weh, this pervert is still using the same tactic? He DMed me back in 2020.”

“Omg, I’ve experienced this before. His messages were exactly the same!”
