The mother of 23-year-old Xie Junying (transliteration), who was reported missing after leaving his workplace for lunch, has confirmed that her son was found dead.
According to his mother, she was informed that he had allegedly fallen from an apartment building.
“My son has been found, but he is gone”
She first announced on social media that her son had been found after he remained uncontactable for more than 24 hours.
Sin Chew Daily reported that she later confirmed the tragic news.
“My son has been found, but he is gone,” she said.
According to her, she only learnt on the morning of his death that her son had recently broken up with his girlfriend.
She believed he may have struggled to accept the end of the relationship.
However, the exact circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
Left work for lunch and never returned
Xie, who worked as an operations executive, reportedly drove out of his workplace in Taman Perindustrian Cemerlang at around 1pm to have lunch.
He last spoke to his family over the phone at 1.53pm and reportedly sounded normal throughout the conversation.
His messaging application showed that he was last online at 2.40pm. His family was unable to contact him after that.
The mother said her son also helped manage the family business and would regularly contact her to discuss work matters.
On the day he disappeared, he called her as usual to provide an update about work.
However, after telling his colleagues that he was heading out for lunch, he did not return to the office.
His passport was missing
While searching for him, his mother discovered that his passport, which was usually kept inside a safe, was missing.
She said her son had never mentioned having any plans to travel overseas.
She described her son as gentle, cheerful, outgoing and polite, adding that he was financially comfortable and led a regular lifestyle.
Apart from going to work, he would spend his free time having meals with friends, playing badminton or going out with his girlfriend.
According to his mother, he would return home every day.
Police also confirmed that Xie was found unconscious in front of an apartment lobby in Taman Mount Austin at around 10.50am.
Johor Bahru South police chief ACP Azrul Hisham Shafie said the injuries found on his body were believed to be consistent with a fall from a height.
