Yesterday (May 25), Tash Karen, a paediatric doctor, shared another heartbreaking story she encountered at work on Facebook.

In the post, she mentioned that her team had received an emergency standby call as they are expected to deliver a baby via C-section after working a hectic 18 hours shift.

She mentioned that part of the reason why a C-section was called in such an unconventional time is that the woman giving birth was tested positive of COVID via RTK screening test, which meant extra care was needed for the baby post delivery.

However, the most devastating part of this incident is how the pregnant mother put no effort into preventing herself from being infected. She decided to not only visit her unwell relative, and had held her own house gathering afterwards, despite feeling sick, during the Raya season.

“It frustrates me that throughout this ordeal, she couldn’t spare two minutes to think about how this affects her unborn ‘baby’.”

She mentioned that not only the baby will be facing the risk of being infected with the virus, but the hospital would also need to utilise a huge amount of resource into taking care of the baby.

“At this point, it’s extremely tiring & demotivating. It is tiring when you feel you have to fight this battle alone & some ‘people’ (rakyat) are least bothered to think and play their role in this.”

“We can’t do this alone, we will fail if you don’t do your part.To everyone reading this, I beg you – Please do your part.”
