One of Kota Bharu’s oldest watch shops is preparing to close its shutters for good and with it, a chapter of local history comes to an end.
A family legacy comes to a close
After over 70 years of ticking through time, the beloved shop will cease operations at the end of this month.
The decision was made by the elderly couple who have been managing the business for the past four decades, as there is no one in the family willing to take over.
The watch shop, once located at Jalan Tok Hakim before moving to Jalan Buluh Kubu, was passed down through three generations.
According to Harian Metro, it was originally started by the current owner’s late father-in-law and eventually taken over by his own son.
However, the family has decided to close the chapter, as the younger generation plans to venture into a new line of business.
It’s truly hard for me to let go of this shop. Our loyal customers feel like siblings some have been buying watches from us for generations.”

News of the shop’s closure recently went viral after a local influencer shared the story online.
Since then, a wave of customers from both within and outside Kelantan, have flocked to the store, eager to get their hands on branded timepieces now being sold at half price.
Every morning from as early as 10am, crowds begin to form, with many customers expressing surprise and sadness over the announcement.
For some, it’s a last chance to buy from a store they’ve trusted for decades.
Customers reflect on trust and honesty
One long-time customer shared how the shop has been part of her family’s life for years.
She praised the couple for their sincerity, saying they’ve always been upfront about watch repairs and even fixed them in front of customers.
Thanks to their honest and professional approach, the shop became a trusted recommendation for many looking to buy or repair watches.
On her final visit, she purchased several watches the priciest one originally worth over RM4,000 but received a 50% discount.
As the business winds down, customers continue to pour in for one last look and one last purchase.
The couple expressed heartfelt thanks for the support they’ve received through the years.
And just like that, one of Kota Bharu’s longest-standing shops is set to close not because it failed, but because a proud legacy simply ran its course.
