M’sian Man Goes To Police Station To Report Missing MyKad, Flees After Knowing He’s Wanted By Police

When a 36-year-old Malaysian man went to a police station to file a report after losing his MyKad, he thought it was just another routine to get done quickly.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, he went from a victim to a suspect on the run after police discovered he was on their wanted list for a prior offence.

According to Harian Metro, the incident took place at the Pantai Police Station along Jalan Pantai Baharu today.

Brickfields district police chief Hoo Chang Hook said in a statement that the man had gone to the police station to lodge a report over his missing MyKad.

An officer on duty conducted a check on the suspect’s MyKad, he was found to be a wanted individual under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“Upon being informed of the matter, the suspect immediately fled from the police station and collided with another officer in the process,” he said.

Hoo added several officers chased after the man, who ran all the way to a riverbank near a hotel before being arrested.

The suspect later admitted to obstructing a public servant by fleeing from an inspection and will be investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code.

Hoo said investigation papers will be referred to the Kuala Lumpur Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office tomorrow (Dec 18) with a recommendation for charges.

The suspect is also expected to be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Court together with the drug-related case he’s wanted for.
