Veteran Hong Kong Actor Stanley Fung Passed Away at 81, Just 4 Days After Longtime Friend Benz Hui

“Brother, wait for me,” he wrote in his tribute to Benz Hui.
Hong Kong veteran actor Stanley Fung, also known as the “King of Supporting Roles,” passed away in Taiwan in the early hours of Nov. 1, 2025.

According to Taiwanese New Taipei City councillor Tsai Shu-chun’s post, his death was announced via social media before Hong Kong outlets picked it up.

Fung had recently posted a tribute to his longtime friend and fellow actor Benz Hui, who died on Oct. 28.

Brother, wait for me. I’ll follow soon.”

In early October, Fung revealed he had spent two months in hospital and afterwards needed an oxygen machine due to low blood-oxygen levels.

Reflecting on his condition, he admitted: “Age catches up with you, you just have to accept it.”

Born into a Cantonese-opera family, Fung started his acting career in TV in the 1960s and became a familiar face in 1980s Hong Kong cinema.

He starred in comedic hits like The Lucky Stars series and The Romancing Star.

While audiences loved his comedy roles, Fung confessed he didn’t always enjoy them:

I understood the market game… you do it because you need to make a living.”

Fung never married. He once had a youthful romance with HK star Liza Wang and a later relationship with former Miss Hong Kong runner-up Annie Tse, both of which ended as their paths diverged.
