SEPANG – A Standard One student lost her life after she was knocked down by a school van at Taman Dahlia, Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi yesterday (Nov 12).
According to a video, the victim arrived at a transit centre in the said van at 12.10 pm and was crossing the road.
However, the van suddenly moved forward and ran over her, causing her to be crushed underneath it.
The driver then stepped out of the van and found the girl lying motionless on the ground.
The victim was rushed to Nilai Medical Centre’s emergency unit for severe head injuries but was declared dead at 2.30 pm.
Sepang district deputy police chief Superintendent Md Noor Aehwan Mohammad said police received a report regarding the incident at 1.10 pm.Â
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the school van was bringing students from SK Taman Seroja Sepang to a kindergarten before sending the remaining students for Kelas Al-Quran dan Fardu Ain (KAFA).
“The victim, who was the last to alight, walked by in front of the van while the driver was moving forward,” he said, adding that the body has been sent to Putrajaya Hospital for an autopsy.
Meanwhile, Selangor’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Chief, Superintendent Azman Shariat, said the driver has been arrested under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
