An American father living in Malaysia has gone viral after sharing that enrolling his daughter in a vernacular Chinese primary school (SJKC) turned out to be a far better choice than keeping her in an international school.
In a video posted on Instagram, Shamim, who has been living in Malaysia for several years, said he initially transferred his daughter out of an international school after noticing what he described as unqualified teachers.
“The school required teachers to have five years of experience teaching the Cambridge syllabus.
“But when I checked their LinkedIn profiles, many only had one to three years of experience,” he explained.
Qualified teachers and modern syllabus
Shamim said he was deeply impressed by the quality and dedication of teachers in Malaysia’s Chinese primary schools, noting that the syllabus is up-to-date and well-structured.
He added that his daughter is now thriving in her studies and can speak three languages fluently, something he’s especially proud of.
“So far, I have no complaints at all about the school. I’m really happy with how well my daughter is doing, both academically and linguistically,” he said, adding that he plans for her to complete her primary education there.
Netizens’ comment
The video quickly gained traction online, with many Malaysians agreeing with his sentiments.
