Throughout the #BenderaPutih campaign, there have been numerous incidents of Malaysians giving generously to those in need. Sadly, certain individuals have taken advantage of their kindness and assume that society owes them a living.
In a Facebook post, a woman uploaded a series of screenshots of a WhatsApp conversation she had with an aid applicant who had previously approached her for food aid.
When the applicant apologised to the woman for asking for aid again, the woman offered to give the latter’s eldest son and husband a job at her friend’s orchard with a daily wage of RM100 to sustain the family.
Shockingly, the applicant turned down the offer, saying that her son and husband weren’t used to such jobs. To top things off, she then proceeded to request a list of items that were enough to feed a family for a month.
Upon seeing the list, the woman apologetically told the applicant that she wasn’t able to fulfil her request and suggested her to get an online or dropship job. Stung by the rejection, the applicant angrily told the woman to not insult her.
“If you can’t help, it’s okay. I don’t need your sarcasm!”
Needless to say, the woman was disheartened by the response and lamented over the sense of entitlement some had.
“Give them an inch and they’ll take a mile. Maybe what Datuk Seri Vida said is right. Lazy to work and can’t bear a little bit of hardship. If you can get it for free, why work, right?”
“Hopefully, not all people are like this. Yes, we are tired of treating people like this, but we will help as much as we can,” she said.
