PETALING JAYA – Social activist Kuan Chee Heng, popularly known as Uncle Kentang, has hit back at critics who accused him of sourcing donations from illegal means.
For those who do not know, Uncle Kentang is known for his charitable acts for needy people using funds donated by the public.
In a Facebook post, Kuan insisted that every cent received was solely for the benefit of recipients.
Read his post here:
“I hereby swear that all donations are halal. So don’t go asking whether the money I receive or the ambulance service I provide comes from halal revenues or not,” he wrote.
He also added that he was sad and disheartened to see certain parties discrediting his efforts.
Kuan has been facing the heat ever since it was rumoured that one individual involved in his charitable acts was charged under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA 2001).
This was further exacerbated by a Twitter account, which warned the public to be “wary of people like Uncle Kentang who act like they’re contributing to society”.
