PETALING JAYA – Social activist Kuan Chee Heng, better known as Uncle Kentang, has announced his decision to take a break from responding to public calls for help.
According to his Facebook post titled “Turning the telephone off for 30 days”, Kuan’s doctor had advised him against taking up more workload.
The doctor stressed that he may develop a mental illness if he continues picking up phone calls or responding to WhatsApp messages asking for help.
Kuan admitted to accepting more than 100 phone calls or WhatsApp messages in a day regarding various social issues.
He listed several issues brought to him such as family financial struggles, homelessness, spouses leaving and many more.

Kuan shared that he will heed his doctor’s advice to get some rest.
As a result, his phone will be turned off for 30 days. However, in the event of an emergency, his other phone will be reachable.
“I need to calm myself down before getting back to the community service.”
Hopefully, Uncle Kentang can get enough rest and come back stronger for those in need.
Earlier this week, Uncle Kentang responded to allegations of money laundering:
