Universiti Malaya (UM) has done it again.
Universiti Malaya (UM) has skyrocketed to the 60th position in the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS-WUR) for 2025, marking an extraordinary achievement.
The exciting news was celebrated on Universiti Malaya’s Facebook page, highlighting the university’s impressive progress.

According to the post, this year’s ranking is a significant leap, with UM climbing 5 places from last year and an astonishing 10 places since 2023.
This remarkable rise places UM in the top 4% of the 1,503 institutions evaluated by QS globally.
Furthermore, UM also stands tall as the highest-ranked university among the 28 Malaysian institutions and proudly holds the third position in Southeast Asia, solidifying its status as a beacon of academic excellence.

UM’s stellar performance is driven by its outstanding reputation among academics and employers. Key indicators such as Employer Reputation (34th, maintained) and Academic Reputation (62nd, up 6 places) reflect UM’s esteemed global standing.
The university has also seen remarkable improvements in several other areas:
- International Research Network: 140th, up 8 places
- Employment Outcomes: 163rd, up 123 places
- Student-Faculty ratio: 163rd, up 15 places
- International Students: 234th, up 20 places
- International Faculty: 324th, up 22 places
Within Malaysia, UM leads in Employer Reputation, Academic Reputation, Employment Outcomes, International Research Network, and Sustainability.
The only M’sian uni in top 100
Reported by The Star, UM proudly sits at the 60th spot globally, making it the only Malaysian university in the top 100.

Following UM, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) made a significant leap, climbing 21 spots to reach 138th place.
Other notable Malaysian research universities include Universiti Sains Malaysia (146th), Universiti Putra Malaysia (148th), and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, which is tied for 181st.
These institutions round up the Malaysian universities listed in the top 200.
