The Jalur Gemilang, known to be the national flag of Malaysia, is no stranger for us who were born and raised in this land. However, the same can’t be said for those who aren’t natives and may mistake it for another country’s.
This was the case for a UK woman who found herself become the butt of netizens’ jokes after she incorrectly guessed the Jalur Gemilang for a South American country.
UK woman guesses M’sian flag as Chile
In a 1- minute video posted by the TikTok channel @streetinterviewsofficial which often posts videos of passersby being tested on their knowledge of national flags around the world, it showed a British woman being asked to guess which country the Jalur Gemilang comes from.
After throwing a nervous glance towards a person not seen in the frame, the woman said that the flag came from Chile.
The host then gave her another chance and dropped her a hint, saying that it was in Asia and starts with the letter ‘M’.
Almost immediately, the woman guesses Malaysia correctly and earns the praise of the host.
The host then goes on to ask her to guess several other flags from certain countries such as India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, San Marino, and Saudi Arabia.
However, she was unable to guess correctly the Somalia and Bahrain flag.
Netizens troll woman in comments
As expected, the woman’s incorrect guess on the Jalur Gemilang prompted Malaysian netizens to poke fun at her by claiming that they came from different cities or states in Chile.
Some also made jokes out of the word ‘Chile’, where it shares the same pronunciation as ‘chili’, with one writing that Malaysia does have different types of chilis available.
