Gua Musang District Police Chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the accident was believed to have occurred when the lorry, which was driven by a 53-year-old man, began reversing down the slope while it was parked by the side of the road heading towards Lojing.

“The driver got out of his vehicle to help a colleague fix his damaged truck and was unaware that the truck was slowly descending down the slope.

“The truck continued reversing for 714 meters before hitting a concrete divider. As a result, the victims, who were coming from behind, failed to dodge in time and crashed head on,” he said in a statement today.

Sik added that initial investigations revealed that the driver had failed to ensure that the lorry was in a stationary state before alighting it.

He said that the victims’ bodies have been sent to the Gua Musang Hospital for an autopsy.

“We have also detained the lorry driver for further investigation under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.”
