TELUK INTAN – A committee member of Amanah Negara (Amanah) was charged at the Magistrate’s Court today with causing injury to the Teluk Intan Women vice-chief last October.
Safarizal Saleh, 43, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Adilah Mokhtar to the charge.
He was accused of intentionally causing injury to Zulaiha Mohd Azam, 32, at the Rivertel Hotel, Jalan Changkat Jong, at 9.30pm.
The charge, under Section 334 of the Penal Code, carries a jail sentence of one month, or a fine of RM1,000, or both if convicted.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Cheah Shuh Yuan, while Safarizal was represented by Akhiruddin Mohamad Taib.
Meanwhile, in the same court, Zulaiha also pleaded not guilty to using criminal force against Safarizal.
She was accused of committing the act at the same time and place.
She was charged under Section 352 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to three months, or a fine of RM1,000, or both if convicted.
Both were allowed bail of RM1,000 with one surety and the case is set for mention on October 20.
