For the first time ever, the Miss Hong Kong Pageant has chosen Penang as one of its filming locations for its outdoor segment.
Today (Aug 1), 14 finalists were seen filming at City Hall in George Town, dressed in elegant white dresses.
The scenic shoot, set against Penang’s blue skies and coastal breeze, drew attention from curious passersby and tourists alike.
TVB brings Hong Kong pageant to Penang
This historic shoot is part of a collaboration between the Penang State Government and Hong Kong broadcaster TVB.
It’s the first time the Miss Hong Kong Pageant has filmed in Malaysia, and the first time Penang has been featured.
Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy, YB Wong Hon Wai welcomed the production team and contestants, calling it a proud moment for the state.
A tourism boost
The pageant, which airs on TVB to over 5.1 million home viewers, is expected to spotlight Penang’s cultural sites, heritage buildings, and coastal charm.
Filming will also take place at other Penang locations, including the city’s seaside areas and cultural landmarks.
Joining the shoot are TVB stars Benjamin Yuen and Moon Lau, who added even more excitement to the production.
“Penang is not just a filming backdrop. It’s a story waiting to be shared with the world,” said Wong.
