Penang has been named the safest city in Malaysia, while Klang ranked higher than the capital, Kuala Lumpur.
According to Numbeo, Penang secured the 77th spot worldwide, boasting the lowest crime index among the five major Malaysian cities included in the study.

Klang outperforms Kuala Lumpur
While Penang maintains its reputation as a safe haven, Klang delivered a surprising result by outperforming Kuala Lumpur in safety rankings.

Klang was ranked 275th globally, making it safer than Kuala Lumpur, which landed at 313th place.
Johor Bahru also performed well, coming in as the second safest city in Malaysia and securing the 226th spot globally.
Globally, Abu Dhabi retained its title as the safest city in the world, followed by Taipei, Taiwan, which came in third.

The rankings are based on surveys conducted by visitors to NUMBEO’s website.
These surveys are designed to align with scientific and government research, with responses assigned scores ranging from -2 to +2.
