A TikTok video by user “earthnomadslava” has sparked quite the conversation online after they called out Malaysia for not being too pedestrian-friendly.
The user said the lack of basic walking infrastructure like sidewalks and crosswalks, saying, “This is what I’ve observed so far in Malaysia; it’s not a pedestrian-friendly country. Everyone drives everywhere; there’s a lot of cars, almost no sidewalks, no pedestrian crossings, not suitable for walking.”
He also pointed out that even recreational parks are walled off, and the main entries are driveways. People drive to the park to take a walk.
The video has been buzzing with reactions, with many Malaysian netizens agreeing that the walking infrastructure really could be better.
However, a lot of the chatter has turned to Malaysia’s intense weather as the real reason walking’s a no-go.
Some even pointed out that we have to drive to use public transport, indicating that the coverage is not good enough.

@earthnomadslava I tend to walk everywhere and like to explore by foot… The infrastructures are well developed, but not so much for the walkers… Pedestrians are definitely at a disadvantage here 😔 #lovewalking #pedestrianlife #visitmalaysia #kualalumpurtrip #travelobservations ♬ original sound – Don’t Travel Hungry 😋
