With Deepavali just days away, Malaysians are looking forward not just to delicious food, but also reuniting and celebrating the occasion with their families.
Now, everyone has something else to look forward to this week as the government announced that Malaysians will not have to pay toll fees across two days starting tomorrow. Wohoo!
2 toll free days on Tuesday & Wednesday
According to a report by FMT, Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said in a statement that toll exemptions will be implemented for all highways starting from 12.01am tomorrow (Oct 29) until 11.59pm the next day (Oct 30).

He added that the initiative, which was done in conjunction with Deepavali, is expected to cost the government around RM38 million.
However, the toll exemption is only applicable to private vehicles and not open to tolls at the country’s borders, such as the Sultan Iskandar Building and Tanjung Kupang toll plazas in Johor.
“This initiative is in line with the unity government’s aspirations to help reduce the cost of living of Malaysians while bolstering cultural unity among our nation’s multiethnic society.
“We also advise road users to plan their journeys beforehand and follow the highway authorities’ travel time advisory,” he said.
To everyone who’s travelling back to their hometowns for Deepavali, please drive safely on the road!
