The donation was aimed to alleviate the burden of those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the low-income group (B40).

TNB President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Baharin Din said the campaign, which was launched on June 9, saw more than 11,000 employees contributing to the fund through salary deductions.

“Contributions made to the WTP Fund will be distributed to those in need soon.

“TNB’s top management and the president of TNB’s internal association agreed to set up the fund as a way for employees to unite and contribute sincerely and voluntarily.

Alhamdulillah, within more than a week since the campaign started, many employees willingly had their monthly salary deducted in June and July,” he said in a statement today.

He added that he was confident the fund would continue to grow until the campaign ends on July 15.

Baharin said that for every ringgit donated by TNB employees to the fund, the company would add on to it with the same amount so that more people can benefit from it.

“I grew up in a challenging urban society, and therefore I truly understand the plight of a community whose income has been affected or experienced job loss due to the current economic downturn.”

“I believe this sentiment is shared by my colleagues at TNB as well,” he said.

He said the funds would be distributed online and physically to recipients, while adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the National Security Council (MKN).

“Recipients will be identified based on the list of B40 groups involving the disabled (OKU), e-Kasih, the Social Welfare Department, and residents of the People’s Housing Project for the Hardcore Poor (PPRT), which is under the Ministry of Women and Community Development’s purview.

“We will also receive recipients’ information through the State Zakat Centre as well as feedback from TNB employees,” he said.

Baharin said apart from the WTP Fund, TNB has provided various forms of assistance to more than 10,000 B40 groups since the beginning of this year, with an allocation of almost RM9.5 million including financing the reconstruction and repair of houses, distribution of food supplies and necessities, as well as pocket money.
