‘This Is The End’ – M’sian Laments Over The Drop In Quality Of MAS’ Signature Satay

Is it over now?

A recent Facebook post by a passenger has brought attention to the decline in the quality of Malaysia Airlines’ iconic chicken and beef satay, a dish renowned for its global accolades and as a beloved symbol of the national carrier.

Despite the passenger’s eager anticipation for the satay, known for its tender meat and rich, flavourful marinade complemented by aromatic peanut sauce, the reality fell short of expectations.

The disappointment was multi-faceted: the chicken was unexpectedly rigid, prone to breaking apart, and the accompanying compressed rice (nasi impit) was crumbly, a stark contrast to its usual texture.

The netizen, looking forward to the satay, shared his experience, stating, “After the recent food crisis on the Malaysia Airlines flight, as soon as I was presented with the meal options by the flight attendant, I instinctively chose the satay.

Regrettably, this time the satay was a complete letdown in all respects, notably in the tenderness of the meat and the nasi impit. The chicken was tough and broke apart easily, while the impit rice was crumbly. And the peanut sauce? It was a far cry from its usual standard.

To me, it seems that the era of Malaysia Airlines’ signature has come to an end.”

This account highlights a stark contrast between the airline’s historical reputation for its meal quality and the current passenger experience.

Revamping in-flight dining

This incident comes at a time when Malaysia Airlines, under the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), has announced a full reinstatement of its in-flight meal service, aiming to enhance the onboard dining experience.

This includes refreshed menus and improved meal offerings, achieved through partnerships with nine third-party meal suppliers and the establishment of a temporary distribution centre, MAG Catering Operations (MCAT), for assembling and delivering food and beverages.

Despite the recent disappointment, the satay remains a popular choice among passengers in both Business and First Class on Malaysia Airlines flights.

All in all, The airline and its parent company may need to reassess their approach to maintaining the high standards that once made their satay a symbol of culinary pride.
