A Taiwanese tourist recently shared her first impression upon arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Instead of the food or weather, it was the wet toilet floor that made her feel she was truly in Malaysia.
‘Yes, I’m in Malaysia’
Posting a photo of the cubicle, she joked that seeing the wet floor was the confirmation she needed.
Rather than complain, she described it as part of Malaysian culture and said one should “follow the local customs”.

Locals quickly explained that Malaysians usually wash with a toilet spray hose after using the toilet, which leaves the floor wet.
Many even said it is cleaner and more practical than only using toilet paper.
She found it useful, not shocking
The tourist said it was her first time learning this and called it “great knowledge”.
She also agreed that the practice was hygienic and respectful of local customs.

‘For Malaysian toilets, this is already considered clean — no shoe prints, no smell, and it’s free. At least no 50 cents charge to use it,’ one netizen said

And as the tourist reminded, sometimes the best way to travel is to adapt to the culture.
