With the cost of living rising with each passing day, more Malaysians are finding it increasingly difficult to live within their means, especially if their pay are well below average.
A local entrepreneur has come other fire after a now-viral clip showed him making a rather curt remark about those who often complain about not being able to purchase items with their salary.
‘Things are expensive because you’re poor!’
In the 1-minute clip shared on X by @update11111, it showed the entrepreneur speaking to a group of people about his personal take regarding those who feel the price of goods are getting more expensive.
Things are expensive (to you) because you don’t have money. If you have money, everything becomes cheap.
“It’s not so much about the prices of goods. It’s all because you don’t have the money,” he was heard saying.
The entrepreneur, who is said to be to be working for a direct sales company according to Kosmo, then went on to say that his opinion on the matter was “relative”.
“There’s nothing that can be considered expensive. Why? It’s because you don’t have money, that’s why you feel it’s pricey.
“If you had money, you would feel that it’s cheap. RM1,000? Cheap lah! RM10,000? Cheap lah! RM100,000? Cheap lah! RM1 million? It’s cheap! Why? Because you have RM100 million!” he explained.
Netizens slam entrepreneur over remarks
Needless to say, the entrepreneur’s remark didn’t sit well with a majority of netizens, who found it condescending and extremely out of touch with reality.
‘My salary is RM10,000 but I still feel RM9 for rice and chicken is expensive.’
‘Wow! Hahahahahaha what kind of economical concept is he applying here?’
‘Is this dude high on drugs?’
