He added that it has been an issue since the 1970s.
A Malaysian man has voiced his frustration over the ongoing presence of sex workers soliciting customers near the Pudu mosque.

A 70-year-old employee who is working at Masjid Jamek Alam Shah for nearly four decades, revealed that this issue has been prevalent since the 1970s.

He recalled that even before he started working, prostitutes could be seen loitering on the sidewalks in front of the mosque, seeking clients.

He shared a personal experience, stating, “I was once approached by a prostitute who offered me RM30 as I was walking towards a bank in the building opposite the mosque.”

Female bank employees have also reported being mistaken for prostitutes due to their attire and grooming while in the vicinity.

The mosque’s Imam, Mohd Hanif Syakir Mohd Yusuf, 30, acknowledged that the immoral activities around the 74-year-old mosque are not new and are well-known to the mosque authorities.

“The social problems in this area involve two groups: women and transgender individuals. Despite numerous preventive measures taken by the authorities, the sex workers return within less than a month after operations are conducted,” he explained.

The mosque’s capacity to address the issue is limited, as serious actions fall under the jurisdiction of the authorities.

However, Mohd Hanif emphasised the mosque’s openness to collaborate with any parties willing to tackle this longstanding problem.

“We do what we can, such as putting up warning signs against immoral activities outside the mosque,” he stated.
