“The police did extort me” Hawker reaffirms accusation despite previous change of tune

The controversy surrounding a young hawker accusing police officers extorting RM500 from him only to retract it last week has been hot news in recent weeks. But it seems that the matter is far from over.

Things kicked up another notch when local singer and YouTuber Namewee declared the hawker’s innocence and promised to bring justice. Read more about Namewee’s involvement here:

Today (June 23), Lim Thiam Fook, who was accompanied by his lawyer, visited the Sentul District Police Headquarters and spent a total of two hours before addressing the media outside the station.

Lim told reporters that he would proceed with his claim that the police had intentionally disrupted his business and coerced him for RM500.

He also dispelled rumours about him lying to police about the incident to prevent him from being repirmanded by his aunt for oversleeping.

“While my aunt owns the shop, I’m the owner of the soup stall and have the authority to decide its business hours.

“Thus, speculation about me wanting to find an excuse for oversleeping is invalid and absurd.”

Lim also acknowledged Namewee’s statement about him being forced to retract his initial accusation due to police harassment.

“After he [Lim] lodged the report, the police frequently summoned him to their office for long hours, making him unable to earn a living.”

Lim later revealed that Namewee had reached out to him and offered words of encouragement as well as advice. He also stressed that he did not gain or accept any financial support from the singer.
