An engagement ring is the most important memento prior to getting married, so losing it before getting hitched is no doubt a terrifying truth to disclose to your partner.
A woman in Thailand lost not only her dignity but also her future fiancé after she was discovered to have lied to police about getting robbed in order to cover up the fact she had lost her engagement ring.
Thai woman lies about getting robbed to police
In a bewildering story that has since made national headlines in Thailand, Pattaya News reported that the woman named Ratana went to police and told them she had been robbed by “three drug-addicted youths”.
As a result of the alleged robbery, she claimed she lost 32,000 baht (approx. RM4,100) and an engagement ring given by her British boyfriend.

Following her claims, police moved to investigate the matter but found no evidence to back it up after reviewing CCTV footage.
As such, they called Ratana back to the police station for questioning. During the interrogation, she broke down and finally confessed that the robbery never took place at all.
Lied to stop BF from finding out about lost ring
According to Pattaya Mail, Ratana said she fabricated the entire story as she feared her boyfriend’s anger if he were to find out she had lost the engagement ring.

She also confessed she wanted to obtain an official police report so that her story would have more credibility. However, she never expected it to turn into a criminal case and garner public attention.
Ratana also expressed remorse for her actions, where she apologised profusely to the police while in tears.
Loses BF & faces criminal charges
To make matters worse, Ratana later found herself dumped by her British boyfriend after her dishonest act came to light.
On top of that, she’s also facing criminal charges for filing a false police report.
Following the bizarre incident, Pol. Col. Sarawut Kornpong reminded citizens to not file fake police reports as it wastes public resources and damages Pattaya’s image as a tourism hub.
