Thai Policeman Uses Pushcart To Wheel 2 Drunk Tourists Back To Their Hostel

Police say such incidents have been occurring for two years.
Thailand is largely known for its vibrant night life, where tourists get to party and drink till the wee hours of the morning.

Two foreign tourists were so intoxicated to the point where they were unable to stand on their feet, prompting a police officer to literally wheel them back to their hostel with a pushcart.

According to a report by Metro UK, the tourists were 23-year-old German Sina Bauman and her 19-year-old Australian friend Tahli Benson, who got drunk while holidaying at Phi Phi Island on Nov 29.

Due to their intoxicated state, they were unable to walk back to their hostel and other partygoers tried to rouse them from their drunken state but were unsuccessful.

At that moment, a policeman named Saneh Jualaong happened to pass by while patrolling the area. When he saw how drunk the tourists were, he went to borrow a pushcart from a nearby store, put the tourists in it and wheeled them to their hostel.

While transporting the tourists with the pushcart, Saneh was accompanied by several shirtless men along with curious stares from passerbys.

A video later showed the tourists being escorted safely to their hostel and Saneh putting a blanket over them when they were placed on their beds.

Speaking to Thai media, Saneh said the tourists were so drunk that they were unable to speak or stand on their own.

He added that he came to their aid as he was concerned for their safety.

I understand the constant worry that comes with having a daughter. I couldn’t help but think about their parents back home.”

‘We’re here to help, not punish’

Koh Phi Phi Police Station superintendent Colonel Surasak Jaidee later revealed the reason why a pushcart, not a car, was used to transport the tourists to their hostel was because all routes on the island were for walking.

He added that such instances have been occurring for the past two years.

According to a Facebook post, this is part of Koh Phi Phi police’s ‘You Drink, I Drive’ initiative, where police officers would help intoxicated tourists back to their hostels.

“We understand that they visit the island to have fun and don’t want to punish them. We should be there to help and protect them,” said Surasak.
