BUKIT MERTAJAM – A hotel in Penang has rebuffed accusations of violating FMCO standard operating procedures (SOPs) after a photo showing several people frolicking in the pool circulated wildly on social media and WhatsApp.

In response to the allegations, the Grand Orient Hotel clarified on its official Facebook page that the pool was acting as a ‘training camp’ for the athletes and staff members of the Penang Football Club.

“All activities were approved by the Malaysian Football League (MFL).”

“Irrelevant parties should also not intervene or blindly accuse [us],” the hotel wrote.

The hotel also pointed out that “training camps” involving sports and leisure activities are allowed according to the SOPs set by the government.

“As we understand the current situation in Malaysia, we are implementing stricter SOPs than those laid out by authorities.”
