A 31-year-old man who was arrested back in July by police for his alleged role in the kidnapping of Leo Jia Hui has been rearrested today (Aug 4).
NST reported that the man, who was released on police bail, found himself nabbed for a second time after police discovered a stash of obscene materials at his home in Kulai, Johor.
This included various sex toys, adult pornography, and child sexual abuse materials (CSAM).
The man, who was identified as the fifth suspect in the case, was first arrested at 4.55am on July 23 at a budget hotel in Batang Kali, Selangor after police managed to find Jia Hui after three days of intense searching.
He was then remanded for seven days, but later saw his remand period extended for another six days to facilitate investigations under Section 365 of the Penal Code and Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
Four other suspects were remanded for four days until July 26 but all of them were eventually released on police bail.
Johor police chief Commissioner M. Kumar said the fifth suspect is now being probed under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for accessing or possessing child sexual abuse materials, which carries a five-year jail sentence, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.
He’s also facing investigations under Section 292 of the Penal Code for possessing obscene materials, which is punishable by up to three years in prison, a fine, or both.
Kumar called upon parents to keep an eye on their children’s activities and emotional wellbeing so that it can help detect and prevent sexual crimes against minors.
