Smugglers will often resort to any method under the sun to ensure that their illegal and ill-gotten gains will not be detected by the authorities.
Unfortunately for a group of smugglers, their attempt to smuggle more than 2,000 contraband cigarettes into Singapore were torn apart (literally) by officers from the city island’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

In a 25-second TikTok clip which has since gone viral, it first shows an inconspicuous grey Hyundai sedan bearing a Malaysian registration number.
However, the car is then proceeded to be torn apart by several ICA officers, with one even using a hammer to break apart the back bumper.
At the end of inspection, ICA officers discovered a total of 222 cartons, 2,710 packets, and 35 sticks of duty-unpaid cigarettes hidden under the bonnet, inside the front bumper and back bumper, in the door panels, and under the seats.
The case has since been referred to Singapore Customs for further investigation.
According to statistics provided on ICA’s website, it said that the department were successful in stopping 35,000 attempts to smuggle contraband items and illicit drugs into Singapore via land, air, and sea checkpoints.

Netizens impressed and tickled by clip
The clip, which was posted four days ago, has since garnered 1.4 million views so far and praise from netizens who commended the officers for their efforts in crippling contraband smuggling.
On the other hand, some were amused by the ICA’s choice of background music, which was Taylor Swift’s ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’.
One netizen expressed amazement over the fact that the car was able to fit more than 2,000 packs of cigarettes.
