Two Singaporean citizens were ordered to pay a hefty fine and perform community service for littering in Johor Bahru.
The accused, architect Lim Hu Shen and project manager Tan Boon Haw, pleaded guilty to the offense before judge Datuk Che Wan Zaidi Che Wan Ibrahim today, reported NST.
Threw cigarette butts in front of mall
According to the charge sheet, both Lim and Tan were caught throwing cigarette butts in a public area instead of into designated waste bins.
They allegedly committed the offense at the main entrance of KSL City Mall between 11am and 11.11am on Jan 3.
Both of them were charged under Section 77A(1) of the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672), which provides for community service orders under Subsection 77B(1) of the same Act.
Under the same section, Lim and Tan face a fine of up to RM2,000 and a maximum of 12 hours of community service if convicted.
Fined RM1K, sentenced to community service
Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) prosecuting officer Rubiah Maulud prosecuted the case, while Lim and Tan were unrepresented.
Following the duo’s guilty plea, Che Wan Zaidi ordered them to pay RM1,000 each in fines, in which they risk sitting a month in jail if they failed to pay it.
Tan and Lim were also ordered to do two to six hours of community service, which must be completed within six months.
