A tourist from the UK earned himself the anger of Singaporeans after he posted a video which called the country as the “worst country” he’s visited by far.
Following the online outrage, the tourist posted another video clarifying that his comment was based on his own personal travel experiences and not a generalisation of Singapore as a whole.
Called S’pore ‘the worst country he’s visited’
The uproar stemmed from a TikTok video posted by the tourist, who shared a video of him posing with the Marina Bay Financial Centre skyline behind him along with the in-text caption:
Singapore is the worst country I’ve visited. It’s not even close.”

He added in the caption that while he found Singapore to be “a great country”, he said he found it boring to what he personally finds enjoyable.
“Still worth a visit, food, people and skyline are amazing. Just somewhere I’d advise only staying short term,” he wrote.
Backlash
It didn’t take long for Singaporeans to fume over the clip, with many condemning the tourist for speaking ill of their country.

However, there were netizens who agreed with the tourist’s observations and said Singapore can be a boring place for some.

Clarification
Responding to the online criticism, the tourist uploaded another video explaining why he made the ‘worst country’ remark, adding that he was amused by the harsh comments left by netizens.
He explained that when one calls a country the “worst place” they’ve visited, it doesn’t equal to the country being bad as a whole.
“I’m saying Singapore, for a person like me, is bad. Singapore is a great country, it’s one of the cleanest countries in the world, has great opportunity, amazing diversity, good food and amazing skyline.

“But of all those things I’ve just mentioned, how many are actually relevant to me? Not many.”
The tourist also said his comment was based on his observation that Singapore had little to offer in terms of activities compared to neighbouring countries.
“The only thing I found to do there was sit at bars and restaurants and get drunk,” he quipped.
He added that while he found Singaporeans to be “alright” during his trip, he personally found people in other ASEAN countries to be “more welcoming”.
