Angry that his request for a straw was rejected, a man in Singapore decided to let the manager know how he really felt by brandishing two knives.
For his rash act, he was eventually sentenced to several months in jail, reported Shin Min Daily News.
Attacks manager over straw
According to the Chinese daily, the suspect, 55-year-old Wu Zhijian (transliteration), went to a convenience store at Block 78 Redhill Lane on May 1 to buy bread and a canned drink.
When he asked for a straw, the manager refused to give one to him.

This the led to a verbal argument between Wu and the manager, eventually resulting in Wu storming out of the shop.
Minutes later, CCTV footage showed Wu turning up at the shop while holding a knife in each hand and lunged at the store manager.
He also threatened to hurt the manager with the knives.
Arrest & sentence
Following the incident, the manager contacted police and informed that Wu was a resident living in a unit on the same block.

Police raided Wu’s apartment and arrested him. He was then hauled to court to face charges the next day.
According to court records, Wu was on conditional parole from Feb 11 to May 9. By brandishing the knives at the manager, he had effectively violated his parole conditions.
Wu’s criminal history, which dates back to 1992, was also brought up in court, with the judge noting that his latest conviction was last October and that Wu showed a higher chance of reoffending.
Wu was sentenced to six months in prison for criminal intimidation, and jailed another seven days for violating parole.
