National men’s doubles badminton star Soh Wooi Yik has planned a surprise that’s sure to leave his dad, Soh Goon Chup, speechless—a brand-new Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SUV.
The 26-year-old, who bagged a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics with his partner Aaron Chia, is using his prize to gift his father, who was also a national player.
Wooi Yik shared that this marks the first time he’s giving such a major gift to his family, according to NST.

“It’s my first time giving my father a car as a gift,” he said, clearly excited to show his appreciation.
“My family has always been there for me, and without their support, I wouldn’t have reached the Olympic stage.”
This surprise comes after Wooi Yik and Aaron were rewarded handsomely for their Olympic efforts.
Each of them received RM100,000 through the National Sports Incentive Scheme (Shakam) and a Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, worth a cool RM123,800.
