On Tuesday (Aug 27), we reported of a massive sinkhole appearing along Jalan Pantai Permai in Kampung Kerinchi, just days after the tragic Masjid India sinkhole incident.
While the cause for the sinkhole was attributed to a collapsed drain, Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) Sdn Bhd has since stepped forward to provide further clarification over the matter.

Sewage pipes not behind Kampung Kerinchi sinkhole, says Indah Water
In a statement provided to WeirdKaya, IWK said that its operations team conducted inspections at the site after it received a report from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
Our team found that the sewage flow in the pipes was normal. Further inspection using CCTV yesterday afternoon (Aug 29) also revealed that the public sewage pipes and manholes were in good condition with no signs of damage.
“As such, we believe that the sinkhole was caused by other factors that require detailed investigation by other relevant agencies,” it wrote.

IWK added that its CCTV investigation results have been submitted to DBKL.
3 sinkholes so far in KL
The sinkhole at Kampung Kerinchi is the second one to appear in KL, with the first being the one at Masjid India which Indian national Vijaya Lakshmi fell into on Aug 23.
As for the third sinkhole, it was spotted approximately 50m away from the one at Masjid India, raising public concern about how safe it is to walk at the area.
