If you rent a place to stay, you’re required by law to ensure that you pay the rent on time or risk getting evicted from the property.
A man living at a public housing project (PPR) flat in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, is now left with no door in his unit after he was found to have owed RM20,000 in rent.
Seremban city council removes door over RM20K unpaid rent
In a 1-minute long video shared by the Seremban City Council (MBS) on its Facebook page, it showed a team of 30 personnel from the council, who were accompanied by an MBS council member and director of the Valuation and Property Services Department.

They were taking part in an operation that took place on Dec 12 to crack down on errant tenants at the Perdana Paroi PPR who had failed to pay their rent for prolonged periods of time.
One of them happened to be a young man, who was found to have not paid RM20,000 in rent since 2023 despite multiple reminders from MBS.
As a result, the door of his house was dismantled and carried off in a lorry. Additionally, it would not be reinstalled unless he paid back the owed rent.

In the comment section, netizens wondered how the man managed to skip rent for so long without suffering any repercussions.

Others also urged the city council to conduct more stringent checks on potential tenants so that PPR units are given to those who truly need it.
