Selangor residents can look forward to an extra-long weekend.
The Selangor government has declared Tuesday, Sep. 1, 2026, a special state holiday following the state contingent’s victory at the 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA).
Reward for an outstanding performance
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari announced the holiday during the closing ceremony of SUKMA 2026 on Aug. 24.
In a Facebook post, Amirudin said the holiday was declared to celebrate the contingent’s “extraordinary victory” and thank everyone who contributed to its success.
This included the athletes, officials, volunteers, parents and Selangor residents who supported the team throughout the Games.
Selangor crowned overall champion
The host state emerged as the overall champion with 101 gold, 73 silver and 71 bronze medals.
The contingent also exceeded its initial target of 80 gold medals.
SUKMA 2026 was held in Selangor from 15 to 24 Aug.
As National Day falls on Monday (31 Aug), the additional holiday means those who do not work on weekends may enjoy a four-day break from 29 Aug to 1 Sep.
