Committing sexual crimes against children is a disgusting act and leaves psychological scars that will haunt them for life.
A 15-year-old girl in Sabah was subjected to this horror after she was raped and impregnated by a fisherman, leading to the birth of a child last year.

NST reported that the suspect, 25-year-old Nawir Rais, committed the heinous crime at a hotel in Papar in March 2022.
According to the facts of the case, the victim went to a hospital for a checkup and found that she was 24 weeks pregnant, prompting the staff to lodge a police report on Aug 17, 2022.
Police investigation later revealed that the victim was invited to the hotel by her boyfriend and Nawir. The two of them happened to be friends as well.
At the hotel, the duo allegedly took turns in raping the victim. She later gave birth to a baby girl last November at Likas Women and Children’s Hospital and DNA tests confirmed that Nawir was indeed the child’s father.
Suspect pleads for lighter sentence
At the Sessions Court, Nawir pleaded guilty and requested Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan to give him a lighter sentence, saying that he was remorseful and will not repeat it again.
He also said that he needed to support his wife, who is currently eight months pregnant and ailing parents.
However, Judge Amir told Nawir that his act had not only jeopardised the victim’s future as she was underaged at the time of the rape, but the baby’s as well.
He then sentenced Nawir to eight years in jail and one stroke of the cane as provided under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code.
