“Along the way, I saw an accident involving a trailer and a motorcycle. I then parked by the side of the road to get a closer look and asked the trailer driver what happened, where he told me it was an accident.

When I went to check on the victim lying on the road, I saw that the motorcycle trapped underneath the trailer belonged to my brother. At that moment, I finally realised he was the victim,” he said.

Lorenzo added that he tried to find the trailer driver again, but found that he was no longer at the scene. He then asked bystanders to call the police as he held Eddie’s body.

Motorcycle dragged for 50 metres

Kota Kinabalu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said initial investigation revealed that the victim was riding a Honda Wave motorcycle from Kolombong towards Bantayan, while the trailer was heading from Bantayan Country Height towards Inanam.

“Upon arriving at the scene, the victim’s motorcycle is suspected to have entered the opposite lane after passing a bend, causing the 48-year-old trailer driver from the opposite direction to attempt swerving to the right.

“A collision occurred and it caused the victim to be thrown onto the trailer lane while his motorcycle was dragged underneath the trailer for 50 metres from his position,” he said.

Zaidi added that the trailer driver left the scene of the accident to contact his employer before turning himself in at the Enforcement and Traffic Investigation Division (BSPTD) of the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further investigation.

He also said the victim was killed at the scene due to head injuries, which was confirmed by a doctor from Queen Elizabeth II Hospital. A post-mortem will be carried out at the same hospital too.
