PUTRAJAYA – The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) has summoned the Mandarin Desk Editor and Mandarin News Editor-in-Chief of an RTM television news bulletin for referring the Palestine Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) as ‘militants’.
Its minister, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, said that KKMM took immediate action after the TV station’s news report was found using inaccurate terms.
“The Mandarin Desk Editor and Chief Editor have been called in to provide a complete explanation and report.”
“The officers involved have also been issued a show-cause letter, and the management is carrying out further investigations,” he said in a statement released today.
The Current Affairs News Section has also been ordered to review its Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to ensure that similar mistakes do not recur in the future.
“RTM has and will always represent the stance and aspirations of the Malaysian people regarding the Israeli-Palestine conflict and also supports the sovereignty and freedom of all Palestinians,” said Saifuddin.
